Last August, voters approved a $31 billion transportation plan that would fund various public transit and street improvement projects for the next 35 years. That goes into effect today, January 1.
Known as Proposition 104, the measure is a sales taxwhich Lars Jacoby with the city of Phoenix explains is 7/10ths of one cent. "So for every $100 it's an additional 70 cents. So estimates are that’ll be an additional $45 a month that your average spender will see in the city," he said.
The funds will be used to expand the light rail line, as well as bus service.
Money will also go toward building and repairing roadways and the Master Bicycle Plan that was adopted by the city council in 2014.
