When Speech Becomes Hateful

In the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino and in the lead-up to this year’s elections, the rhetoric in the media has gone up a notch or two, but when does speech become hate speech? Do the media have a role in looking out for it?

Eric Newton, the innovation chief at Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, spoke about those questions.
