Gov. Doug Ducey gave his State of the State address Monday.

In his State of the State address Monday, Gov. Doug Ducey said he wants Arizona to be to the sharing economy what Texas is to oil.

To help facilitate that, he signed an executive order creating the Governor’s Council on the Sharing Economy. The council will, among other things, develop recommendations for ways to improve the state’s legal and regulatory structure for the state’s sharing economy.

Sidnee Peck spoke about Arizona’s place in the sharing economy. Peck is director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Arizona isn’t the only place looking to incorporate the sharing economy into its overall economy. Ariella Cohen is editor in chief of Next City, an online publication covering urban change and policy. Cohen spoke about states that are really doing this well.
