The bus driver’s strike in Phoenix continued into its sixth day Wednesday. Officials with the transit union report they’ve made some progress in the negotiations.
When negotiations began the union had 10 issues with Transdev’s offer they wanted to resolve. That’s now down to three or four.
Officials with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1433 said they’re presenting an offer today they think should settle what’s left.
Meanwhile, many of the striking bus drivers said they’re struggling to make ends meet after their medical benefits were stopped on Friday. Coretta Taylor said it’s delaying her rehabilitation appointments for her recent knee surgery.
"It’s impacting me very much because it’s $150 a visit," Taylor explained. "Because I’m already on a budget, a very bad budget."
In a statement, officials with Transdev said under the new health plan the union chose “employees on strike are not working and therefore do not receive their pay or benefits.”
