The University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix has grown substantially in downtown Phoenix. Now, the dean who oversaw much of that growth is looking to relocate, though it comes at a moment of scrutiny for the college.
Dr. Stuart Flynn has been named a finalist to head a new medical school being formed by Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas, expected to open in 2018. Flynn is one of four candidates for the new position and could potentially leave the downtown UA medical campus, where has has served as dean since 2008.
Although Flynn’s tenure has seen large-scale growth from a UA branch campus to an independent medical school, UA recently has come under fire.
Last June, the school was warned of having its newfound accreditation placed on probation after four areas of non-compliance. The school claims to have made the needed changes to maintain its accreditation, which will be determined in February.
