Taiwanese media report that the Republic of China Air Force says Maj. Kao Ting-cheng was piloting the F-16 fighter jet that crashed about 80 miles north of Luke Air Force Base last week.
According to a branch of a Taipei news agency called Focus Taiwan, Kao had more than 800 flight hours after graduating from Taiwan’s Air Force Academy in 2007.
The pilot’s wife and two children live near the Glendale air force base, where he had been training for the past six months.
Reports say the Taiwanese Air Force is sending U.S.-based Taiwanese officials to help with the crash investigation.
The U.S. Air Force currently is looking into the cause of the accident.
