ASU Eyes Downtown Mesa For New Campus Location

Residents in Mesa could soon see an Arizona State University campus move into the downtown area.

The potential partnership was announced at the Mesa state of the city address Thursday morning.

Mesa Mayor John Giles said it’s part of a larger effort to attract more post-secondary institutions to the community.

"To me, the connection and the fit between Arizona State University and downtown Mesa is a great fit," he said. "It’s like peanut butter and chocolate."

But it’s not a sure thing just yet. Mesa City Council must first adopt a memorandum of understanding to begin exploring the partnership and work out specific details. That’s expected to make the agenda this month.
