The killing of Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, and a number of similar occurrences around the country caused some to expect an increase in crime.
It was dubbed “The Ferguson Effect,” but a new study concluded there hasn’t been significant growth in total, violent or property crime in larger U.S. cities since the summer of 2014. Scott Decker, professor of criminology and criminal justice at Arizona State University, is one of the study’s authors.
