Glendale police believe two fifteen year old girls died in a murder-suicide at Independence High School on Friday morning.

Authorities have identified them as tenth graders, but will not release their names because they are juveniles.

Glendale Police Officer Tracey Breeden says investigators don’t believe any students saw what happened to the girls.

“Two females they’ve both sustained a single gunshot wound. And the weapon was found near them,” Breeden said at a press briefing.

She said authorities are not searching for any suspects and a weapon was found near the bodies.

Breeden said she did not have any information on the relationship between the girls, who died at the scene. They were found near an administration building.

Bertha Meza has three kids enrolled at Independence High. She says they texted her about the shooting, and she went to the school to wait for them.

“Well, I felt really bad because, even though they weren’t my children, it’s an ugly feeling just the same,” Meza said in Spanish.

The Glendale Union School District campus was locked down most of the day until parents were bused from a staging area to the school to pick up their student.

There is no school Monday because of President’s Day. The district superintendent says he expects students to return to class Tuesday. Counseling will be available for anyone who needs it.

The Glendale Union School District website says the school has about 1,900 students and was founded in 1977.
