Arizona Researchers Learn Lessons From Meteor Explosion 3 Years Ago

Three years ago Monday, a meteor exploded about 16 miles above the Siberian city of Chelyabinsk, injuring more than 1,000 people.

Since then, researchers have been working to learn more about that rock, and how to prevent similar events from happening in the future.

Tim Swindle is one of them — he’s the director of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
