The Gilbert School Board is holding a public hearing Wednesday night to get input from residents on proposals to close or re-purpose Mesquite and Gilbert Junior High Schools to make room for Gilbert Classical Academy.

The board is expected to vote on this next month. Dr. Christina Kishimoto is the superintendent of Gilbert Public Schools. Kishimoto spoke about the change.

While the board will hear from parents and other residents Wednesday, at Tuesday's meeting it’ll consider suspending its policy regarding notice of potential school closures. Among the parents that could affect is Lisa Nicita, she has three kids in one of the elementary schools that feeds into Gilbert Junior High. She worked on the effort to keep the school open a few years ago.
