Phoenix Looks For Creative Ways To Keep Palm Fronds Out Of Landfills

It’s tough to look anywhere in the Valley and not see palm trees. Phoenix, though, is looking to do something different with all of the palm fronds that come down in the city.

The city has issued a request for proposals(RFP) for a company to come in and do something with the fronds other than have them go to the landfill, which is where they go now. Gretchen Wolfe is a project manager with Phoenix. She describes her job as creating economic activity based on what we put in our trash cans and recycling bins.

The RFP is open until March 30, and the city council could vote on a company or companies in September.
