ASU Political Scientist Talks Endorsements In Arizona

Thursday, Congressman Matt Salmon stunned most political watchers by announcing he wouldn’t run for reelection in the very safe Republican haven of the Fifth District.

Salmon endorsed Senate President Andy Biggs to be his successor. Earlier this month, State Senator Adam Driggs said he wouldn’t run for reelection and said he’d back Representative Kate Brophy McGee for his seat.

Rick Herrera, a political scientist at Arizona State University, spoke about whether we’re seeing more of these kinds of endorsements.
