The Trunk Space lives up to its name as a tiny music venue on Grand Avenue near Roosevelt Street. About 150 people can squeeze in at a time. It’s one of the few all-ages venues in town.
Mullarkey has been a volunteer with the venue for a few years.
"People need music. It shouldn’t be something they have to wait until they’re 21 for. They should have access to play it and listen to it when they’re 5 years old if they want.," he said.
Jesse Srogoncik, the guitarist for Larkspurs, said a venue like this helps the bands out, too.
"They book local acts and national acts. And for local acts it’s difficult to get into the venues in town, even though there’s more than there’s ever been."
So for fans and bands alike, it was big news when the owner of the Trunk Space announced they’re planning on moving in May. Where to? Well, they’re not sure yet.
Owner Stephanie Carrico said that wherever they go, now is the right time for a move.
