Flagstaff Could Build Filtration System To End Water Feud With Hopi Tribe

There may be a possible settlement on a long-standing dispute over the use of reclaimed wastewater at Arizona Snowbowl for snowmaking.

More than four years ago the Hopi tribe sued the city of Flagstaff over its plans to use reclaimed wastewater, on the grounds that it created a public nuisance. Many of the claims were dismissed but in 2014 a court reinstated the nuisance claim.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports the Flagstaff City Council will consider a settlement agreement that would require the city to build a $1.6 million filtration system.

In return, the remaining part of the lawsuit against the city will be dismissed with prejudice and each party will have to pay their own court costs and legal fees. The Hopi Tribal Council unanimously approved the agreement last month

The council is scheduled to take up the settlement at its meeting on March 8.
