University Of Arizona President Accepts Board Position With Beleaguered Devry Education Group

University of Arizona President Ann Weaver Hart has accepted a position on the board of Devry Education Group.

This, while the for-profit college company is being sued by the Federal Trade Commission.

Hart will make $70,000 a year for serving on Devry's board, according to The Arizona Daily Star.

The Federal Trade Commission sued the company in January for allegedly misleading students about their job and earnings prospects.

The University of California, Davis' Chancellor Linda Katehi, who was named to the DeVry board at the same time as Hart, resigned from her seat within days of being appointed. Critics said she tarnished her school's reputation by being connected to the for-profit college.

Hart says she will not resign because she believes she can be an asset to the college by serving as “an advocate and influence for quality.”

In additional to her annual pay from Devry, Hart will also get 100,000 dollars a year in stock as a board member.
