Some Arizona residents will get refunds from Apple for past e-book purchases.
The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from Apple on Monday in a case reviewing whether or not the company colluded with publishers to artificially raise e-book prices. A lower court’s ruling will stand and Apple will have to pay $400 million to consumers across the United States.
Of that, $8.6 million will go to Arizona residents, according to Arizona Attorney General spokeswoman Mia Garcia.
“E-book readers were affected who bought a book between April 1, 2010, to May 21, 2012,” Garcia said.
She said Arizona consumers purchased just over two percent of all e-books in that time period.
The five publishers accused of colluding with Apple settled before the trial and paid Arizona consumers just under $3.5 million.
