'Phoenix Fire' In Eastern Arizona Suspected To Be Human-Caused

The "Phoenix Fire" burning in eastern Arizona is suspected to be human caused. The fire started on Sunday and has burned about 600 acres of the same grass and wooded areas of the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski wildfire, near Heber-Overgaard.

Chief deputy Jim Molesa from the Navajo County Sheriff's Office says the fire was started unintentionally.

“They were target shooting and a spark can cause a fire. And it’s an example of just how bad the dryness is.”

Target shooting is legal in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, where the fire is located. Molesa says the fire is slow-moving and should be contained quickly.
