Voters in the town of Guadalupe have successfully recalled Mayor Rebecca Jimenez. Taking her place will be Angie Perez.
Perez won the special recall election held yesterday in the small town between Phoenix and Tempe. Preliminary results show she won 81 percent of the 565 total votes cast.
Jimenez’s first term as Guadalupe’s mayor began in 2007. She faced calls for her resignation last fall after facing charges of welfare fraud from food stamps she received between 2011 and 2013. She later pled guilty to a lesser charge.
