It was the closest finish ever in NASCAR racing at Phoenix International raceway. Kevin Harvick nipped Carl Edwards at the finish line Sunday afternoon by one hundredth of a second.
The two drivers banged into one another on the final lap of overtime racing, Harvick reached the finish line inches ahead of Edwards.
It was Harvick’s record eighth NASCAR Sprint Cup victory at Phoenix International Raceway.
When the cars started bumping on the final lap, many fans had to recall the image of Edwards grabbing Harvick's throat in a 2008 garage altercation.
Or maybe they thought about the time two years later when Harvick called Edwards "fake" and Edwards responded by saying he had "no respect" for Harvick.
But six years later, there was no wild wreck and ensuing brawl between the longtime rivals.
"I don't think there's any real love lost between the two of us," Harvick said after his 0.01-second victory over Edwards. "I knew I was going to get hit, and I'm going to hit him in the same type of manner."
Meanwhile, Edwards said it was, "Just a lot of fun. I really wish it would have worked out a little bit differently, but it was a good race."
