Diamondbacks Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick looks at some of his collection.

Ken Kendrick has an unrivaled baseball card collection. He’s the Diamondbacks’ managing general partner.

His collection is so comprehensive it is on display at the Phoenix Art Museum. It includes cards of players even non-baseball fans will recognize: Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron - and, the holy grail of baseball cards: a T206 Honus Wagner card.

Like many collectors, Kendrick started when he was a kid. He spoke about where he’d buy cards in his town growing up.

The collection of baseball cards is now on display at the Phoenix Art Museum. It includes 16 of the 20 highest-rated sports cards of all time. But, is it art? Gilbert Vicario, the museum’s chief curator, spoke about if he ever thought he’d see an exhibit of baseball cards in a museum.

Collecting baseball cards in the United States was a huge hobby for most of the 20th century, but then interest started to wane. Dave Jamieson is the author of "Mint Condition: How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession."

The collection will be on display through April 24.
