Gov. Doug Ducey is promising to get the bottom of the long lines at polls around the state this week.
In a statement, he said he was glad that Arizonans turned out in high numbers to vote in the Presidential Preference Election, but called unacceptable that many of them had to battle incredibly long lines.
Through his spokesman Daniel Scarpinato, the governor also said it was time to let Independents participate in the process.
"Most of the trouble was in Maricopa County, where officials drastically cut the number of polling sites to save money, and the decision backfired when polls opened and long lines began to form," Scarpinato said.
Ducey urged election officials to evaluate what went wrong and ensure it doesn't happen again.
