According to the survey, consumers will spend the bulk of their money — $5.5 billion — on food. Clothing will come in second at $3 billion with gifts not far behind at $2.7 billion.
Americans are expected to spend $2.4 billion on candy and $1.2 billion on flowers. Most shoppers are expected to vsiit discount and department stores with 25 percent shopping at local small businesses and 21 percent shopping online.
The survey finds nearly 60 percent will celebrate Easter by visiting family and friends while nearly 56 percent will cook a special meal. Slightly more than 51 percent will go to church and 31 percent plan an Easter egg hunt.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.
