Livestock producers can now submit an application to receive compensation for living in the presence of endangered Mexican Gray Wolves. The payment plan was developed by the Mexican Wolf/Livestock Council.
The compensation program has three main goals: fund livestock producers’ efforts to avoid conflict with wolves, provide compensation for livestock lost to a wolf, and offer payment for wolf presence.
Any payments made through the program will be based on a formula that considers factors like whether a person’s land overlaps territory of one of the endangered wolf’s packs and the number of wolf pups from a nearby pack that survive to the end of the year.
The deadline to apply is June 1 st.
