The Topock Fire burned Lake Havasu Wildlife Refuge in April 2016.

The Topock Fire burning near Lake Havasu on the Arizona-California border is now 40 percent contained. But fire officials say it could continue to grow a couple hundred acres more before it’s fully extinguished.

Some evacuations of two RV parks are being lifted on the California side of the fire. Now, officials and fire fighters are worried about migrating birds in the area. The Topock Fire is currently burning in the Lake Havasu Wildlife Refuge.

“They’re putting a lot of effort in trying to save as much habitat as they can. Because of the birds migration patterns that come right through the area," said Mike Richeling, with the  Arizona State Forestry Division.

The fire has burned over 2,200 acres, so far. It’s cause is still under investigation, but is being called “suspicious in nature,”
