It’s been more than a week since Bell Road at Grand Avenue closed in Surprise.
Surprise Police officials broke down the numbers and in the area around the detour at Bell Road, there were 19 traffic collisions from the time it closed on April 1 to April 8.
More than half of those happened in the first three days, and there was one fatality.
Comparing those 19 to the previous week’s 17 accidents and the 21 collisions two weeks earlier, the number of collisions near Bell Road haven’t changed much.
Officials said it’s probably because Bell Road and Grand Avenue is one of the busiest intersections in Surprise, but they will be doing more research on how to handle detour traffic going forward.
