Goodyear’s Lakeside Music Festival is Saturday and organizers have added new acts this year as part of efforts to draw more people to the West Valley’s art scene.

Thirteen local groups will play on two stages at the free festival at Estrella Lakeside Amphitheatre.

Organizers have previously booked jazz and blues acts. But this year, they’ve expanded to include other genres.

New acts will attract a younger audience, and that can help grow the local art scene, said Bernadette Mills, executive director of the West Valley Arts Council.

“I think working with a lot of the local bands, we can tap into their population and their fans,” Mills said. “And those fans will travel.”

One of those bands is CO-OP which features Dash Cooper, son of Alice, on vocals. Headlining the festival is The Cuban Tribe, which features Grammy nominee Marcos Crego.

Matthew Casey has won Edward R. Murrow awards for hard news and sports reporting since he joined KJZZ as a senior field correspondent in 2015.
