Two Arizona health care providers are being sued after a former worker was charged with stealing prescription drugs.
Rocky Allen worked in Glendale at Banner Thunderbird medical center and then at HonorHealth John C. Lincoln for a short period of time in 2014. He was fired from John C. Lincoln after testing positive for a controlled substance.
Allen was indictedwith stealing narcotics while working at a hospital in Colorado.
As a precaution, both Arizona healthcare providers offered free hepatitis and HIV testingto any patients who may have come in contact with Allen.
The lawsuit, filed by Colorado lawyer James Avery, says more should be done to prevent something like this from happening again.
“Hopefully we’ll get some rule changes made that require hospitals to do background checks prior to becoming surgical technologists,” he said.
Banner health officials declined to comment, but did apologize for causing anxiety for former patients.
