Gilbert fire officials say the cause of a five-alarm fire that burned over the weekend at an apartment complex under construction was accidental.
The determination was made following an investigation by Gilbert Investigators with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
Mike Conner with the Gilbert Fire Department said investigators were able to identify the cause of the fire.
“Investigators interviewed multiple workers and witnesses and found the only heat source in the area of origin was a torch being used by roofers,” he said.
And the search for the cause was thorough.
“The investigators interviewed around 60 people. Firefighters, security guards, witnesses, workers that were on scene that afternoon, and the property owners were all interviewed by the investigators,” Conner said.
The property is no longer under investigation and has been turned back over to the owner, Alliance Residential Company.
