Scientists Using Drones To Set Prescribed Burns, Limit Wildfires

Wildfire season in Arizona and other states is expected to get longer and longer as drought conditions continue and the potential effects of climate change are also a concern.

One method that could help limit catastrophic wildfires is the use of prescribed or controlled burns. A team of scientists at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is making advances with drones helping to start those planned burns.

Carrick Detweiler, assistant professor at the University of Nebraska in the Science and Engineering Department, talked about the project.
