State flags across Arizona will fly at half-staff Wednesday in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in Iraq. Charles "Charlie" Keating IV died Tuesday morning in an ISIS attack near the city of Erbil.

Hours later, Gov. Doug Ducey ordered the lowering of state flags in honor of Keating.

Keating was a graduate of Arcadia High School in Phoenix and the grandson of Arizona financier Charles Keating, who was involved in the saving and loan scandal in the 1980s.

In a press release, Ducey called Keating’s death a “tragic reminder of the daily sacrifices made by men and women in uniform.” Ducey said Keating was an “Arizona hero” who was “fighting evil and extremism.”

The flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset, and will be lowered again on the day of Keating’s funeral. The date of his service is pending.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to reflect the correct name of the city in Iraq.
