Triple 2 Fire Started In Mexico, Has Crossed The Border

The Triple two fire has already burned over 600 acres in Mexico. But the blaze has crossed over the border and burned at least three acres of the Coronado National Forest near Nogales.

Heidi Schewel, with the forest service, said there are many troubling factors when it comes to planning a strategy to fight the fire.

“The fuels are there. The topography is steep, which can increase fire behavior. Fires run up hill, preheating fuels in front of it," said Schewel. "And then of course the hotter and drier the weather, the more favorable the thing is to burning.”

A team of bomberos have been working to suppress the fire in Mexico. While three firefighter crews with the Coronado National Forest are working to keep the fire from spreading to nearby Walker Canyon.

The fire has been deemed human caused, but the circumstances are still unknown.

Editor's Note: The acreage of burned land has been updated to reflect how much the fire has burned in Mexico.
