ESPN's Kate Fagan Explores Why Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi Play In Russia

The Phoenix Mercury tip off their WNBA season on Saturday with a road contest against the Minnesota Lynx.

The Mercury are coming off of a good season but not a championship one. That’s due, at least in part, to former MVP Diana Taurasi deciding not to play in the WNBA last season. Taurasi accepted extra money from her Russian team to rest during the WNBA’s season.

In her new piece, " Lost and Found in Russia," for ESPN: The Magazine, Kate Fagan writes about Taurasi and teammate Brittney Griner’s experiences in Russia.
