Ducey Signs Arizona Bills Targeting Opiate Addiction

Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a pair of bills aimed at treating opiate addiction.

The first bill was aimed at so-called doctor shopping. Senate Bill 1283 requires Arizona doctors to access and update a controlled substances database before prescribing one to a patient.

The second expands access to an opiate overdose reversal drug known as naloxone, or Narcan, to include anyone in a position to help. Before House Bill 2355, only first responders and medical providers could do it.
