Passengers traveling through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday might want to pack light and avoid checking bags.
Baggage is piling up at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Sky Harbor is dealing with a computer server issue that impacts the way bags are screened. The issue started this morning.
TSA is now using a backup system to screen bags but Julie Rodriquez with Sky Harbor says thousands of passengers have been affected.
“When you check a bag at the ticket counter it goes through a screening process before it is loaded onto the plane and that behind the scenes screening process has slowed considerably at Sky Harbor so more than 3,000 bags have not made their flights,” she said.
Many of the bags at Sky Harbor will be trucked to screening locations in San Diego and Las Vegas.
Rodriguez says the TSA issue is still unresolved and recommends passengers flying Thursday and Friday carry important items onto the plane.
Please note: @TSA experiencing delays in checked bag screening. Bags may miss flights from PHX. Avoid checking bags if possible.
