West Valley cities hit hard by the housing bust are among the fastest growing in new housing permits.
Percentage-wise, Glendale saw the biggest jump in new housing permits around the Valley, almost four times as many this year as the same time last year.
That’s according to data from the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona.
Those same numbers also show Avondale permits tripled and Buckeye permits doubled.
Buckeye Spokesperson Bob Bushner says this is good evidence the city is not only growing, but thriving after the recession.
“I think even the 2015 numbers showed that we have rebounded and that it’s steady.”
Glendale planning Director Jon Froke says the uptick means contractors are becoming more confident in the city’s economy.
“I think it’s a more cautious approach this time around than say, 8, 9, 10 years ago before the recession," Froke said. "I think it just shows a nice rebound and slow but steady, is how I would classify it.”
Not all West Valley cities are seeing those numbers. Surprise saw a 30 percent drop this year.
