Educators, groups and supporters rallied Thursday as the ballots for school funding measure Proposition 123 were still being tallied.
Teachers spoke about the problems they face in the classroom, like no raises and low funding for school supplies. Ralliers held signs with the hashtag “Now It Starts.”
The signs echoed the idea that Prop 123, while increasing money to schools for the next decade, isn’t enough.
Chuck Essigs is with the Arizona Association of School Business officials, and spoke at the event.
“This is the first step and there’s many more steps to take before schools are adequately funded and that should be our goal,” Essigs said.
Prop 123 at last count is passing by a slim margin. Officials expect to have all ballots counted on Friday.
