Firefighters in northwestern Arizona hope to have a wildfire completely contained today. The fire temporarily forced the evacuations of 60 homes Friday evening in the Mohave Valley area.
The fire broke out Friday afternoon in the rural community about 50 miles west of Kingman near the California-Arizona border. With winds pushing the flames, the fire grew quickly. Evacuated residents were able to stay at a Red Cross shelter at the local elementary school.
Authorities lifted the evacuation order Saturday evening allowing the residents to return to their homes.
A spokesman for the Mohave County Emergency Management department says the fire was started by either a downed power line or a transformer.
It’s now estimated to be just less than 400 acres according to the Mohave Valley Fire department.
