Phoenix Company Recalls Salads Over Listeria Fears

A Phoenix-based company is recalling pre-packaged salads over fears of listeria. The voluntary recall affects three grocery store chains in Arizona.

Papa John’s Salad and Produce is recalling its Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing because it contains possibly tainted sunflower kernels. This is part of a recently expanded listeria recall by a company called SunOpta. No illnesses have been reported.

Stores affected by the recall in Arizona include Albertson’s, Safeway and Bashas’. The salads were also distributed to grocery stores in six other states. Anyone who’s purchased the product with a sell-by date between May 18 and May 25 is urged to throw it out or return it to the store.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
