Traffic coming into Arizona from Mexico has steadily increased in recent years.
Last year alone, that meant 8,000 more big rigs and 400,000 more passenger vehicles came into Arizona, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Also, 1 million more people visited the state.
Arizona’s transportation department trying to plan for this upward trend. An ADOT spokesman said the department is working to improve roadways and traffic flows at the border, with several projects in the works. That includes a study on how to build Interstate 11 from Nogales to the Hoover Dam bypass bridge.
