Maricopa County Board Of Supervisors Approve Special Election Results

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved the canvas of the Arizona's May 17 Special Election.

Before the election, the county announced they were working to make the election process easier after the issues with long lines and limited polling places during the Presidential Preference Election in March.

When addressing the board, District 2 Supervisor Stephen Chucri said he was pleased by how smoothly things went the day of the election.

“I think we planned accordingly. I’m glad that, as we’ve talked about in the past, we’ve learn Mr. Chairman, from these errors along the way," said Chuci.

Things weren’t perfect, though. The board did address the issue of the incorrect translation of Proposition 124 on early ballots, saying it involved education. The proposition, which passed statewide, was about pension plans for police and fire fighters.

Karen Osborne with the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said it was an oversight and more mechanisms will be placed in the future to prevent similar mistakes.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to correct the month of Arizona's Presidential Preference Election.
