2 Measles Cases Associated With Eloy Detention Center

Arizona health officials have confirmed two cases of measles in the state. Both individuals were associated with the private Eloy Detention Center, which houses detainees from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

One person was an employee at the facility, the other was a detainee. There had been reports of a chicken pox outbreak at the facility, but Jessica Rigler with the Arizona Department of health said that’s still unclear.

"It seems clinically these cases were more compatible with chicken pox however because we know there’s now measles in the facility its’ possible they could be measles," said Rigler. "What we’re doing is conducting some additional testing to get to the bottom of it."

Rigler said at least nine specimens are currently being tested for measles. Health officials said the employee who tested positive for measles may have exposed the public last Saturday at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa and the Arco AM/PM Store in Casa Grande on Sunday.
