It’s summer time, and many Arizona students are still hitting the books. The number of high schools students attending summer school in the state is on the rise.
Arizona Department of Education spokesperson Charles Tack said it’s not just about kids making up failed classes anymore.
“We do still have those remedial programs for students who do need a little extra help," he said. "But, there are a number of opportunities for students during the summer to do advanced work, or to satisfy some of the summer credit needs that they have.”
The department does not have the official numbers showing the increase of students taking advantage of summer school. But, Tack said the office has been fielding more calls.
He also said the addition of online courses has created more opportunities for making summer learning accessible.
