Kids’ Movies Tackling Social Themes

Animated movies can bring in a lot of money from box office sales, and increasingly, they can take on subjects not previously discussed in kids’ movies.

Disney’s "Zootopia" has been one of this year’s biggest box office hits and has generated buzz for including social commentary on issues ranging from hypocrisy to race.

Kevin Sandler, an associate professor in the English Department at ASU, and specializes in film and media studies. He talked about animated kids’ movies taking on more social themes.
