Career shifts are often dramatic — but how about moving from designing science centers and focusing on education to becoming a novelist?

Phoenix resident Sheila Grinell is the former head of the Arizona Science Center. She was also a leader of the New York Hall of Science and the Exploratorium in San Francisco. She has moved from running science centers to writing her first novel, "Appetite ."
