Phoenix Residents Get To Question Police Chief Candidates

Phoenix residents will have the chance to question the three finalists for the police chief position during a public forum Monday night. It's the latest effort to include community feedback in the hiring process.

The city has held several meetings to gather input from residents, business owners and community groups to find out their priorities for the next police chief.

The city also conducted a survey on its website. Respondentssaid they were most concerned about responding to calls for service, crime prevention and crime reduction.

The city also collected questions by phone and email that will be asked during the public forum at council chambers on W. Jefferson Street. Written questions can also be submitted between 5 and 6 p.m. The moderated forum will from 6 to 7:30 p.m. After the forum, the three candidates will stick around to meet people at City Hall.

The candidates, who include one current and one former Phoenix police officer, still face final interviews before the city manager makes a final decision.
