Operators of a dog food plant in Flagstaff have come up with a plan to combat a pungent smell that’s been wafting to a nearby neighborhood.
The plant is owned by Nestle Purina, which according to The Arizona Daily Sun, recently commissioned a $120,000 study on how to contain the dog food odor. Officials told City Council this week they’ve found a way to reduce the smell by 70 percent within four years of building.
They say the smell is escaping the plant through exhaust stacks, but could be stemmed with about $3 million of construction. Residents near the plant in the southeastern part of the city say the smell can be overpowering, especially on hot days.
