Shuttered Glendale School Waits For Word On Re-inspection

The Children’s Center for Neurodevelopmental Studies is near 54th Avenue and Glenn Drive.

State education officials have re-inspected a private school for special needs students that was shut down because of safety concerns.

Filthy bathrooms, splintered wood, exposed nails and wiring found during a surprise visit led state officials to close the Children’s Center for Neurodevelopmental Studies near 54th Avenue and Glenn Drive in Glendale.

But repairs have been made, and school officials are waiting for the Arizona Department of Education to issue a decision on a re-inspection, said spokesman Matthew Benson.

“Obviously this school year, there is some time left,” Benson said. “We’d like to get the kids back in those classrooms. And really there’s no reason whatsoever why the school can’t reopen at this point.”

The state’s Division of Developmental Disabilities approved the repairs last week, Benson said. About 120 students have already returned to campus for an after school program.
