Fast-Growing Brush Fire Burning Near Yarnell

(Photo by Stina Sieg - KJZZ)
Yarnell is known for its boulders, which become even more visible after the fire burned away large patches of trees in 2013.

A brush fire near Yarnell had grown to 100 acres Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews from state agencies as well as Yarnell, Wickenburg and Congress are responding to the blaze. A helicopter and aerial tanker are also on the way to the fire. It’s being called the Tenderfoot Fire.

Three years ago, 19 firefighters were killed when a massive wildfire in the same area swept over their positions, killing them.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office  is alerting residents to the fire. Some evacuations have been reported.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has said State Route 89 will close in both directions from mile post 282 to mile post 275 for an undetermined amount of time.
