Bureau of Land Management Firefighters work to contain the Tenderfoot Fire that broke out near Yarnell, Arizona, June 8, 2016.

More fire restrictions are on the horizon as fire season rages on in Arizona. This comes as crews monitor more than 20 active wildfires in the state.

The Tonto National Forest imposed fire restrictions on Wednesday, banning fires within its boundaries in northern Arizona with the exception of a few developed campgrounds.

Officials with Prescott National Forest said they’ll be moving to Stage 1 fire restrictions sometime next week. Spokeswoman Adriane Ragan said that also prohibits campfires outside of developed campgrounds and limits where people can smoke or use firearms.

"This time of year, in June, in summer time, is when we do expect if we’re going to see wildfires break out, [restrictions] will be happening," she explained.

The restrictions come as firefighters are working to control the Tenderfoot Fire near Yarnell.
